Solution-Dyed Fabrics: Color Starts from the Yarn
What is solution-dyed fabric? Colour is added to the polymer before spinning, so the colour sits inside the fibre. ABCD TEX develops colours from masterbatch, through yarn, to finished upholstery fabric.
What is solution dyeing?
In solution dyeing (also called dope dyeing), colour pigment is mixed into the polymer before the fibre is spun. The colour therefore sits inside every fibre, instead of being printed or dyed onto the surface of a finished cloth. It is the reason colours stay in the fabric — through sunlight, washing and years of use.
How we work, from masterbatch to fabric
Colour pigments are dispersed in polymer masterbatch — this is where every ABCD TEX colour starts.
Dope-dyed yarn is developed from the coloured polymer, including textured and specialty yarns for different fabric surfaces.
Yarns are woven into upholstery fabric on our weaving machines.
The woven fabric is finished and inspected before shipment.
Why it matters
- Colour fastness — colour is inside the fibre, so it resists light and washing far better than surface-dyed cloth.
- Batch consistency — the same masterbatch recipe gives the same colour, order after order.
- A cleaner process — colouring happens before weaving, so the finished fabric does not go through a piece-dyeing bath.
Custom colour development
We develop custom colours for furniture brands: send a target colour (a Pantone reference, a fabric sample or a photo), and our team works from masterbatch to deliver colour cards for approval before production.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between solution-dyed and piece-dyed fabric?
Solution-dyed fibres are coloured during fibre production, before the yarn is made. Piece-dyed fabrics are coloured after the fabric has been woven. Because the colour is incorporated into the fibre during production, solution-dyed fabrics are known for consistent colour and strong colourfastness performance.
Are all ABCD TEX fabrics solution-dyed?
Solution-dyed colouring is the core process we develop our upholstery fabrics around. If you need certainty about the yarn construction or colouring of one specific collection, our sales team will confirm the details for that collection before you order.
Can you match custom colours?
Yes. Share your target colour, Pantone reference or fabric sample with us. Our team will evaluate the colour and develop a suitable solution based on our solution-dyed yarn system. Colour feasibility is confirmed before production.
What are your MOQ and lead time?
MOQ and lead time vary by collection, colour and order quantity. Contact our sales team with the collection and quantity you need, and we will confirm the applicable MOQ and production schedule.
Can we get samples?
Yes. Leave your contact details and tell us which collections interest you, and our sales team will arrange samples.
